História

A cada mil anos, cem mamodos habitantes de um mundo paralelo chamado Mundo mamodo são mandados à Terra para batalharem uns contra os outros, a fim do último que restar se tornar o rei de seu mundo. Eles carregam livros com palavras estranhas, o humano que conseguir lê-lo poderá ativar seus poderes para lutar, com o tempo e batalhas, mais palavras no livro vão ficando claras e assim o mamodo fica mais forte, porém se o livro for destruído por outro mamodo, ele volta para o seu mundo e perde a chance de se tornar rei.

A história conta sobre Kiyomaro ("Kiyo" no Brasil) Takamine, um jovem japonês de 14 anos, e seu mamodo Gash ("Zatch" no Brasil) Bell, que graças à Zeno perdeu completamente a memória do seu mundo, e só sabe o próprio nome (isso acontece quando Gash ainda estava na Inglaterra, e não tinha encontrado Kiyomaro). Juntos eles terão grandes aventuras, tentando descobrir mais sobre o passado do Gash e as batalhas mamodo. Eles criarão um grande laço entre si, não só como parceiros de luta, mas como amigos, e Kiyomaro também decide ajudar Gash a torná-lo o vencedor da luta: o rei do mundo mamodo.

Mamodos

Mamodos são criaturas de outro mundo, que se relacionam com um humano que carrega um livro que o fornece poderes. Os mamodos vem para a terra com poderes anormais. O maior objetivo dos mamodos é se tornar o rei dos mamodos.

Protagonistas

Kiyo/Kyomaro Takamine

Jovem japonês de 14 anos de idade, e atualmente dono do livro de Gash. É na verdade um gênio, com um QI de 230, no entanto, por esse motivo, ele era muito arrogante, não se dava bem com ninguém e não tinha amigos, e pelo mesmo motivo, era alvo de inveja. Sua vida muda quando seu pai, um professor de antropologia, habitante da Inglaterra, lhe manda como presente de aniversário, e também com a intenção de mudar a sua atitude, uma criança que ele achou desmaiada em uma floresta, sendo essa criança o Gash. Devido a influência dele, Kiyomaro muda completamente, sendo agora uma pessoa muito boa e batalhadora, que dá o máximo valor aos seus amigos e as outras pessoas, apesar de ainda manter um pouco do jeito arrogante.

Zatch/Gash Bell

Um mamodo de 6 anos de idade, sem memórias, achado pelo pai de Kiyomaro em uma floresta na Inglaterra. Apesar do jeito escandaloso e estabanado, Gash é um mamodo de grande coração, disposto a ajudar a todos, e dando máximo valor aos seus amigos e às outras pessoas. Ajuda Kiyomaro a ser uma pessoa melhor e a ter amigos, e também ajuda a muitos humanos e mamodos a seguirem pelo "caminho certo". Deseja se tornar um rei bondoso, para que os mamodos não tenham que retornar ao mundo humano para lutarem uns contra os outros. A cor de seu livro é vermelha, e seus poderes são relacionados ao relâmpago, etc. Zatch Bell está em 1° lugar no ranking mamodo.
